Iwijn De Vlaminck to join BME faculty in 2015

  • New Faculty Year: 2015

Cornell BME is pleased to announce that Iwijn De Vlaminck, Ph.D., has accepted our offer to join us as an Assistant Professor in January 2015. Iwijn De Vlaminck obtained a Ph.D. from K.U. Leuven in Belgium. He has a background in applied physics, specifically in nanoscale optics and mechanics. After his Ph.D. he joined the lab of Cees Dekker at T.U. Delft as a postdoctoral researcher in single-molecule biophysics. Since 2012, De Vlaminck has been working with Stephen Quake at Stanford University as a postdoctoral researcher.

As a new faculty at Cornell, De Vlaminck plans to develop a lab focused on single-cell genomics measurements that retain information about temporal dynamics and spatial context. His lab will use these techniques to study the role of chemical gradients and cellular microenvironments in the ecology of heterogeneous cell states and will furthermore pursue avenues to go beyond genomic and transcriptomic measurements in single cell biology.

Look for more information on our newest faculty member and his research program in our upcoming BME Newsletter in early September.
