Cornell Biomedical Engineering is co-located with the rest of the Engineering College in Ithaca, NY. Ithaca is a college town located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, right at the foot of Cayuga Lake, and has been ranked by the American Institute for Economic Research as the #1 college town in America for the past three years!
Education is the major business in Ithaca with both Cornell University (21,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 8,000 staff, and 1,500 faculty) and Ithaca College (6,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 1,000 staff, and 700 faculty) located on the sides of hills overlooking the town and lake. The town is a fun, safe, and student-centric community!

Ithaca has its own airport with commercial flights to Philadelphia, Newark, and Detroit, and similar small airports are located at Binghamton and Corning-Elmira each less than an hour away. If commercial flights don't interest you, you can always learn to fly as one current Ph.D. student is doing! Syracuse has a medium-sized airport located about 1.5 hours away. Philadelphia is about 4 hours and New York City is about 4.5 hours away, and there is extensive bus service.
