Symposium examines the potential of machine learning in health care

The Sept. 27-28 symposium “Bridging the Divide: Machine Learning in Medicine,” held at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, brought together researchers and clinicians from Cornell’s Ithaca campus and Weill Cornell Medicine to discuss recent work and initiate collaborations in the field of machine learning in medicine. Sabuncu receives NSF CAREER Award

Mert Sabuncu, Assistant Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering, recently received a U.S. NSF CAREER Award from the Division of Information and Intelligent Systems (IIS). The award supports his research proposal on “New Learning-based Algorithms for the Analysis of Very-Large-Scale Neuroimaging Data” for a five-year period from 2018 through 2023 with a total amount of $581,438. Suri, Butcher receive teaching and advising awards

Two Meinig School instructors were honored at the 2018 College of Engineering Excellence in Advising and Teaching Awards, hosted on Monday, Sept. 17: Shalu Suri (Lecturer) received the 2018 James and Mary Tien Excellence in Teaching Award Jonathan Butcher (Professor) received the 2018 Sonny Yao ’72 Excellence in Teaching Award The annual awards recognize distinguished teaching and mentoring within the college, as well as leadership in path-breaking science and technical innovation.
