Undergraduate Students

As an undergraduate, how do I get involved with research?

Follow these easy steps to get started:

*CONSIDER THIS: Make sure you have time in your schedule and life to add an additional responsibility. Talk to your faculty advisor and/or undergraduate coordinator if you are unsure.

  1. IDENTIFY YOUR LAB OF INTEREST: Explore faculty research groups in Biomedical Engineering.
  2. SEND AN EMAIL TO FACULTY ASSOCIATED WITH THE LAB:
    • Introduce yourself (name, major, year).
    • Talk about what interests you about their work.
    • Describe what you hope to gain and how you will contribute.
    • If you have prior experience, you can mention this.
    • Keep this letter brief!
  3. SEND A FOLLOW-UP EMAIL: If no response after 5-7 days, send a follow-up email. Don't be afraid to respectfully follow-up several times! You can also leave a note on their office door.
  4. SIGN UP FOR BME4900: Once you’re accepted into a lab, sign up for BME4900 to receive credit for your research. Choose the section that corresponds to your faculty lab member.
