Jane Wei wins BMES Student Design and Research Award

Jane Wei
Congratulations to Jane Wei, an undergraduate in the Fischbach-Teschl Lab, chosen for a 2017 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Student Design and Research (Extended Abstract) Awards. Her project, titled “Collagen Type I Alignment Regulates Endothelial Network Formation During Vasculogenesis,” uses a 3D model system to study the role of extracellular matrix structure on the development of vasculature. Specifically, she is working with Fischbach Lab Ph.D. student Michael McCoy on assessing the role of collagen fiber alignment on mechanosensing and guiding vascular network assembly. This appears to happen in two ways, through changes in how blood vessels form and differences in the proteins that they manufacture.
Jane will receive the award on Friday, October 13 at 10:15 am, at the morning plenary session of the Annual BMES meeting held this year in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) offers several awards recognizing outstanding contributions to biomedical engineering by students and student chapters. The Student Design and Research Award (Extended Abstracts) award is granted to up to 8 undergraduate students who are selected on the basis of originality, significance, thoroughness of design analysis, and performance evaluation. Winners receive a certificate, a complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting, and a stipend to assist with travel expenses.
Congratulations Jane!
