Butcher Lab Research Featured on the Cover of ATVB Journal
The cover of August 2016 issue of Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology features an image from work recently published by the Butcher Lab. The paper entitled "Cadherin-11 Overexpression Induces Extracellular Matrix Remodeling and Calcification in Mature Aortic Valves," identifies one of the underlying molecular mechanisms of heart valve calcification and demonstrates that overexpression of Cad-11 upregulates RhoA and Sox9 to induce calcification and extracellular matrix remodeling in adult AoV pathogenesis. The findings provide a potential molecular target for clinical treatment.
Authors of the paper include individuals from Cornell's Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Biomedical Sciences, the Department of Genetics, Pediatrics, and Medicine (Cardiology) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and the Department of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery, Seattle Children’s Hospital.
