Faculty and students march across the globe for science

Associate professor Chris Schaffer in Washington D.C.
In April, Meinig School faculty and students lent their voices to the march for science chorus at events across the globe. Associate professor Chris Schaffer, assistant professor Nozomi Nishimura, and several Schaffer-Nishimura lab members joined the more than 200 Cornell students and 40,000 scientists and boosters at the march in Washington D.C. Schaffer, who has worked as a science policy advisor in the United States Congress, is a faculty advisor to the Cornell group Advancing Science and Policy, which organized the graduate student portion of the trip.
Associate Prof. Chris Hernandez spoke on accepting inconvenient facts at the Ithaca march. And in the Southern hemisphere, Bonassar Lab Ph.D. candidate Julie Kohn, who is a visiting researcher at the University of Cape Town, organized a march to celebrate science positively in South Africa. Kohn and the event are highlighted in the Inside Higher Ed article, “Marching for Science Internationally.”
