New grant (NSF): Genetic Control of Bone Structure
Marjolein van der Meulen was awarded a grant through the National Science Foundation entitled, “Genetic Control of Bone Structure.”
The research goal of the proposed work is to establish the importance of tissue-specific differential gene expression in the regulation of cancellous and cortical bone mass with age and adaptation to loading using state-of-the-art next generation sequencing techniques. This information is critical to understanding and replicating bone tissue formation, maintenance and degeneration. These novel data will be used to identify genetic targets and pathways to inhibit or stimulate gene expression and/or envelope-specific signaling mechanisms to stimulate and enhance bone formation in vivo.
