Butcher Lab featured in Newsweek Special Issue
Associate Professor Jonathan Butcher’s lab is featured in a Newsweek Special Issue out this week. The article, part of a print-only Newsweek edition titled “The Year Ahead 2016,” highlights how 3D printing technology is being developed for healthcare applications. With a focus on cardiovascular developmental bioengineering research, the Butcher lab is featured as one example using this technology to bioprint heart valves. Applications like this, Butcher suggests in the article, are the precursor to getting bioprinted tissues into animal models as a treatment for defects and, potentially, alleviating the need for post-mortem donations. An image of a 3D printed aortic valve (left) from the Butcher lab is also featured in the article.
