Peter Doerschuk to Join the Department of Biomedical Engineering

Message from the Director of Biomedical Engineering:

I'm delighted to inform you that Professor Peter Doerschuk will be joining Cornell July 1, 2006 as a full professor. Peter will have a dual appointment between BME and ECE.

Peter is currently a Professor of Electrical and Computer engineering at Purdue University. He has a PhD in electrical engineering from MIT and a MD from Harvard Medical School. He has been a faculty member at Purdue since 1990 and has served in both the BME and ECE departments. Peter is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and has received 5 teaching awards at Purdue and was named a University Faculty Scholar. He is well known for his work on the structural biology of viruses. He has also developed an implantable capsule that transduces and transmits interstitial fluid concentrations of a desired component (ethanol in this case) for six weeks. Such sensors are important as health care shifts more to a home setting while allowing distance monitoring of patients.

Please join me in welcoming Peter to Cornell.
