David J. Skorton joins BME faculty!
Dr. David J. Skorton, currently President of University of Iowa, was named Cornell University's 12th President on January 21, 2006. Dr. Skorton will hold faculty appointments in BME in Ithaca and at the Cornell Weill Medical College in New York City. Dr. Skorton is an active researcher with expertise in congenital heart disease and in cardiac imaging. Dr. Skorton is particularly known for clinical aspects of cardiac imaging, especially echocardiography, radionuclide imaging, and magnetic resonance imaging of the heart. At the University of Iowa, he is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine in the School of Medicine as well as a faculty member in biomedical engineering and in electrical engineering.
Dr. Skorton has received numerous awards for his scientific and professional contributions including election as Fellow by the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, and the American Physiological Society. He received career development awards from both the VA and NIH. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Board of Cardiovascular Diseases and received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the Department of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Skorton begins his appointment at Cornell July 1, 2006. Cornell BME welcomes Dr. Skorton with much excitement and pleasure.
