Professor David Putnam wins Wallace H. Coulter Foundation Early Career Award

Assistant Professor David Putnam of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering has been named a recipient of a prestigious $240,000 Early Career Translational Research Award from the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation for his work on the design and synthesis of new biomaterials. His research, performed in collaboration with Dr. Dix Poppas, MD at the Weill Cornell Medical College, focuses on developing new ways to prevent postoperative tissue adhesions, which afflicts over half of all surgery patients and has a negative economic impact of over $2 billion annually in the United States alone.
