Stroock wins ONR award

Asst. Prof. Abe Stroock, CBE, has been awarded a 2004 ONR Young Investigator award, one of only 26 in all branches of physical science and engineering in the country. Stroock's project on vascular materials will develop principles and methods for making synthetic materials with embedded vascular systems. For ONR, his work could find application in novel heat pipes for wearable heat transfer systems and new materials to control the chemistry at bio-synthetic interfaces, for example, the development of a vascular wound dressing for treating severe burns and wounds. The ONR program is "intended to confer honor on outstanding new faculty members at U.S. universities, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers. Awardees are selected on the basis of past performance and the quality and creativity of their research proposals."
