Associate Professor van der Meulen's research centers around orthopaedic biomechanics with an interest in the influence of mechanics on skeletal development, growth, and adaptation, particularly long bone structure and strength. This information is of interest in understanding the pathogenesis of many skeletal disorders, including osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.
