David Lipson

Department of Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Lipson has been a member of the faculty since late 2004. In addition to teaching courses in BME, he coordinates external projects with BME Field faculty for the Masters of Engineering Program (M Eng). Dr. Lipson has broad experience in biomedical engineering including: NASA, Abbott Laboratories, Eli Lilly (including a role as manager of advanced development leading to an early stage subsidiary (Heart Rhythm Technologies, Inc.)), Medtronic (as director of R&D, minimally invasive cardiac surgery), MediSpectra, Inc. (VP, Product Development) and TissueLink Medical, Inc. (VP of Research). David has over 30 patents and continues to publish.

Dr. Lipson has primary responsibility for the M.Eng. Program, including development of design projects with industry and with the medical college. His teaching responsibilities include BME 5500, Product Engineering, and Design in Biomedical Engineering BMEP 4020, Information Exchange in Biomedical Engineering Systems, and BME 501, and BME 5910- Design Project. Dr. Lipson also encourages entrepreneurial activities in his program and has recently obtained seed funding for research for the M Eng program.
